Transform your smile with composite bonding.

Trauma, decay, infection, or lifestyle choices like smoking and diet can create many different issues with your teeth, affecting the appearance of your smile and maybe your self-esteem.

There are many ways to address cosmetic dental issues and regain your confidence. You may already be familiar with dental veneers, but composite bonding has also gained popularity.

FAQs

What is Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is a cosmetic dental treatment that places thin layers of tooth-coloured composite resin over the surface of the tooth to improve the appearance of your teeth seamlessly. It can fill cracks and gaps, repair broken teeth and improve discoloured teeth to create a natural-looking smile.

It usually requires no local anaesthetic and can be completed in just one appointment. Although it is technically a cosmetic treatment, repairing dental damage can help reduce the risk of dental infections.

The composite bonding treatment is a simple, effective, and pain-free procedure. We can treat a single tooth, several teeth, or all teeth. Before you proceed with your treatment, a trial smile will be given to ensure you are fully aware of what your new smile will look like.

What Is Composite resin made of?

Composite resin is made from a special type of plastic. It is BPA-free, safe, and hardwearing. While it is considered durable, it is not as hardwearing as natural tooth enamel.

How Long Does Composite Bonding Last?

Composite resin is a durable material that bonds nicely to the surface of your teeth.

Typically, composite bonding lasts for around five to seven years, but the lifespan of your new smile will depend on how you maintain it. Full maintenance advice will be given after the procedure.

What can composite bonding be used for?

It can be used in selected cases to repair chips, alter tooth shape, close small gaps, smooth uneven edges and improve the appearance of certain areas of discolouration.

Does composite bonding damage natural teeth?

Composite bonding is often minimally invasive and may require little or no removal of natural tooth structure. The amount of preparation depends on your individual case.

Is composite bonding painful?

Composite bonding is usually comfortable and local anaesthetic is not always required. Your dentist will explain what is involved and use anaesthetic if appropriate.

Can composite bonding stain or chip?

Composite can pick up surface staining and can chip or wear, particularly when exposed to heavy biting forces. Good oral hygiene and avoiding habits such as biting nails or pens can help.

Should I whiten my teeth before composite bonding?

If you are considering whitening, it is often preferable to do this before bonding so the composite can be matched to your preferred tooth shade. Your dentist can advise on the best sequence.

Is composite bonding suitable for everyone?

No. Suitability depends on your teeth, bite, gum health, expectations and the type of change you want to make. A consultation is needed to determine whether bonding is appropriate.
